1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the ClingNote Windows application, clingnote.com, and the licensing and support services used to operate ClingNote. “ClingNote,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the independent developer operating the ClingNote product.
2. Data stored locally on your device
ClingNote is a local-first notes application. The application may store the following information on your Windows PC:
- General and Attached note content, including rich text or Markdown.
- Local work-context information used to reconnect notes to files, applications, windows, and other supported contexts. This can include local file paths, app/window identifiers, titles, fingerprints, and related metadata.
- Application settings, note state, recovery data, version history, managed note assets, and local backup archives.
- Local diagnostic logs used to troubleshoot application behavior.
ClingNote does not need to upload the contents of your documents in order to reconnect notes to your work. Local note data remains on your device unless you choose to export, copy, back up, or share it.
3. Trial and Pro licensing
ClingNote uses an online licensing service to enforce the Pro trial and paid Pro entitlements. Licensing requests may process information such as a device identifier, product/variant identifiers, trial timestamps, license entitlement state, activation/instance identifiers, signed-license lease information, and network metadata that is ordinarily visible to an online service (for example, IP address and user agent).
When you activate a Lemon Squeezy license, the license key is transmitted to the licensing service for activation. The ClingNote desktop app is designed to persist the signed local entitlement rather than the raw license key. The licensing service may retain activation information, including a license key and instance identifier, as needed to support license refresh and deactivation.
ClingNote currently uses Cloudflare infrastructure for licensing endpoints and related key-value storage.
4. Payments and subscriptions
Payments for ClingNote Pro are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy handles payment details, billing, taxes, invoices, refunds, and subscription management under its own privacy practices. ClingNote does not receive or store your full payment-card number.
We may receive transaction and license information needed to determine whether a Pro entitlement is valid, such as product/variant, license, order, subscription, status, or customer-related identifiers supplied by the payment/licensing platform.
5. Microsoft Store distribution
If you install ClingNote through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft processes Store acquisition, installation, update, device, diagnostic, and related information under Microsoft’s own privacy terms. ClingNote may receive aggregate or product-level reports through Microsoft Partner Center.
6. Support and diagnostics
If you contact support, we process the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, screenshots, logs, or other troubleshooting material. Local diagnostic information is not intentionally uploaded to ClingNote merely because it exists on your device; you control what you send to support unless the app clearly tells you otherwise.
7. Website and hosting data
clingnote.com is intended to be a simple product website and does not intentionally use advertising trackers. The hosting, security, and delivery provider may process standard request information such as IP address, browser/device details, request URLs, timestamps, and security signals to operate and protect the site.
8. How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. Information may be processed by service providers only as needed to operate ClingNote, including Cloudflare for hosting/licensing infrastructure, Lemon Squeezy for payments and licensing, Microsoft for Store distribution, and email/support providers when you contact us. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or in connection with a legitimate business transfer.
9. Retention
Local note data remains on your device until you edit, delete, restore, uninstall, or otherwise remove it, subject to local backups and recovery copies you control. Online licensing records are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide trial, activation, refresh, deactivation, fraud-prevention, support, legal, and accounting functions. Support correspondence may be retained as needed to resolve issues and maintain reasonable business records.
10. Security
ClingNote uses reasonable technical measures appropriate to a desktop application and online licensing service. Paid-license state stored by the app is protected using Windows data-protection mechanisms, and signed license leases are verified locally. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
11. Your choices and privacy rights
You control the note content stored on your own device. Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights to request access, correction, deletion, or other treatment of personal information we process online. To make a privacy request, contact support@clingnote.com. We may need to verify your request.
12. Children
ClingNote is a general productivity application and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a manner that would require parental consent under applicable law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as ClingNote changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are published.
